Project Abstract

This research paper proposes an ethical assessment tool to evaluate digital ethics in electronic voting (e-voting) systems. It focuses on the importance of addressing ethical considerations in the digital age, with particular attention to the challenges and implications of e-voting systems. We aim to enhance public trust and ensure the integrity of these systems, therefore we developed a prototype, presented in the form of a survey, that allows a comprehensive assessment of various ethical aspects. This prototype was then tested with the experts group of the ”Psychology of Digitalisation” from the University of Bern. Individual and group interviews took place with six of the researchers, who evaluated the prototype, gave regular feedback, and went through a heuristic evaluation. The research highlights the necessity of ethical oversight in digital services, especially in the context of technologies that impact e-voting processes. Existing frameworks were explored and presented, along with their advantages and disadvantages. Through the examination of these frameworks, we developed our own set of guidelines tailored to assess the ethical standards of digital processes.
